I teased her about being a girl growing up with four older brothers and wondering if she had been spoiled or picked on. The Winans have always been a close knit family. She says that the imprint has lasted a lifetime.

Winans says that night God reminded her, “That all I need you to do is be a willing vessel. Others said something in the song touched their lives. She says some in the audience started to cry as she sang ‘I Surrender All’ and later in the evening numerous individuals approached her saying it took them back to a time when they had attended church. Prior to her performance Winans and her husband Alvin Love had prayed that God would use those few minutes to impact the audience, the production crew and those hosting the event. Winans was reflecting back to an experience several years earlier when she performed on the Grammy Awards. I don’t have to do as much as I thought I had to do,” these words were spoken by the dynamic gospel singer CeCe Winans during my recent conversation with her. Presentations were given for each during the initial opening performances for Winans.“I learned a great lesson that day everybody has a God place in their heart that only God can fill. The concert was a benefit for Center High School, specifically for the Center Foundation and for Center Friends, a mentoring program in which Evangel Church participates. In this closing number she was joined by the church choir. “Never Have to Be Alone” brought the auditorium alive with movement in every direction. “Alabaster Box” harkened back to the 90s when her friend Whitney Houston reigned on the music charts. This was followed by “Why Me Lord”, normally heard in Country music circles but with Winans’ crisp, clear vocals was given explosive meaning. Winans started off singing a couple of songs off her new album “ Let Them Fall In Love.” But it wasn’t until she sang the rousing number “Hey Devil” that the audience became fully engaged. Winans sang “Hey Devil” which was a fun and exhilarating tune. With the acceptance came Winans’ performance. It followed on the heels of a rousing performance by the Evangel Church Choir and an impressive performance by the Center High School Choir, who had only five days of practice. Missouri State Representative DaRon McGee surprised audience members and Winans with the announcement of the decree.
